About The Project

The clients contacted me with a proposition of renovating this home within a 5 year period prior to their early retirement after a demanding career in Europe. The brief was to simply restore and create a traditional 18th century home in terms of decor and styling.

After our initial meeting and a long day looking around the property bouncing ideas and their needs it was daunting to say the least. With highly extensive work to be carried out and being a two hour commute with many days away from home the reassuring words ‘we have 5 years until we move in’ secured my answer to accept.

With highly extensive work to be carried out and being a two hour commute with many days away from home the reassuring words ‘we have 5 years until we move in’ secured my answer to accept. Three and a half years down line it was complete. We became such good friends from working so closely I still get updates from them whenever they are at the local eatery I spent ordering my ‘mixed grill’ almost every night.

From The Client

Will has worked with us over the last two years helping us restore an extensive period property. This has been a true collaboration where Will has worked with us sharing ideas, design and helping us over come significant restoration challenges. Will’s work is to say the least impeccable. From meticulous preparation in order to set the canvas to building character with colour and delivery of end result to brief. His attention to detail and exacting eye has produced a standard of finish that cannot be faulted. Will has a superb eye for colour too and has been a key contributor in our restoration journey.

Challenges

Some of the most challenging parts to this property was my time being so far away from home, the clients living in London and the available time we had to meet at the property to communicate in person. Then the added factor of trying to handle a small team of tradesmen with such a huge task over a large period of time was concerning.

Special Skills Employed

Heathfield really did test the skilled work, mainly from hard to access areas with furniture, stained glass replacement and heritage floor restoration in the entrance hall. An amazing stone masonry company found local materials for the large kitchen extension to the rear of the property.
